MAPPA stands for Mulit-Agency Public Protection Arrangements. These are managed arrangements by the police, probation and the prision service across Northamptonshire. Although the arrangements are local, they operate across England and Wales. The purpose of these arrangements is to assess and manage the risks posed by high risk violent and sexual offenders.
Other agencies that co-operate with MAPPA include:
Youth Offending Teams
JobCentre Plus
Local Education Authorities
Local Housing Authorities
Registered Social Landlords
Social Services
Strategic Health Authorities
Care Trusts and NHS Trusts
Electronic Monitoring Providers
How does it work?
 |
 |
Those who pose a risk of harm are identified |
| |
 |
Relevant information about the offender is shared |
| |
 |
The nature and extent of the risk is assessed |
| |
 |
Ways to manage the risk effectively are ascertained including victim protection and reducing further harm. |
Incorporated within some Risk Management Strategies, includes the option that some agencies may decide (if necessary) to disclose information with the ploice to others in order to prevent further harm.
The process is monitored and reviewed locally by the Strategic Management Board which includes senior representatives of different agencies. Two members of the public appointed by the Secretary of State also sit on the board as lay advisors.
