The Home Detention Curfew scheme came into force on 28 th January 1999
For most eligible prisoners (who have received a sentence of 3 months or more, but less than 4 years); HDC will be a normal part of their progression through their sentence. They will normally be released on HDC unless there are clear grounds to indicate that they are unlikely to successfully complete the period on curfew. However prisoners must pass a risk assessment and have suitable accommodation approved by the Probation Service before they can be granted Home Detention Curfew.
The decision to release a prisoner on HDC is based on the following criteria:
Suitability of address
Likelihood of compliance
Risk of reoffending
Risk of harm to the public
Victim issues
Behaviour in prison
What will happen.
On your day of release from custody, the Monitoring Provider will visit the home where they will fit the box and tag and explain about the curfew. Where possible the equipment will be the tag plus a monitoring box with a mobile phone connection.
How it works.
The tag sends signals to the box. The box then sends signals to the Monitoring Provider control centre.
Telephone contact will be made if:
The tag or box is moved, damaged or tampered with
The offender goes out during curfew hours
The offender returns late curing curfew
The power supply fails for any reason
