Trainee Probation Officers are employed by local Probation Boards and are appointed to undertake a two year training scheme which leads to the award of a Diploma in Probation Studies.
Trainee Probation Officers:
Learn to work effectively in a range of different settings within their employed area of work.
Complete a two year training programme which comprises of:

A level 4 NVQ achieved through practice based training; |

BA Honours administered by DeMontfort University in Leicester , largely on a distance learning basis; |
| |
 |
Are supervised throughout their training by a Practice Development Assessor, as well as other Probation Managers |

Are supervised throughout their training by a Practice Development Assessor, as well as other Probation Managers |
| |
 |
On completion of the degree and the level 4 NVQ trainees are awarded the Diploma in Probation Studies (DipPS) which is the current requirement for practice as a qualified Probation Officer. |
Eligibility:
If you are a self starter with stong organisational skills and commitment, you can undertake an intensive two year course of degree level study to become a Probation Officer . There is no upper or lower age limit, but the usual university age requirement for entry to the programme is 18.
